US scrap exports increased in December

According to USITC statistics, the US exported 1.51 million tons of scrap in December 2022, up 23% from November 2022 and 37% from November 2021.

Among them, exports to India had the largest share at around 408,000 tons, up 23% m-o-m and 873% y-o-y. Other major destinations for US scrap exports include Turkey (about 331,600 tons), Mexico (about 236,100 tons), and Taiwan (about 91,100 tons).

In the said period, the value of these exports increased by 15.2% m-o-m and 13.9% y-o-y, amounting to approximately 590 million USD.
