U.S. ferrous scrap imports increased by 0.8% m-o-m to about 235,000 tons in January. Imports from Canada increased by 22% m-o-m to 222,000 tonnes.
In January 2023, US pig iron imports amounted to 297,000 tons, a decrease of 25% compared to December 2022 and by 41% compared to January 2022.
U.S. ferrous scrap exports during this period decreased by 25% m-o-m to 1.01 million tons. Exports to Turkey decreased by 26% to approximately 247,000 tons. The country with the largest share in exports was Turkey.
