US ferrous scrap exports increased in February

US ferrous scrap exports increased by 25.4% m-o-m in February, according to data from the US International Trade Commission.

In February 2024, US ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,242,554 tons, an increase of 25.4% on a monthly basis and a decrease of 9.4% on an annual basis, as the US steel industry experienced significant fluctuations in scrap prices.

Exports to Türkiye ranked first

Exports to Türkiye ranked first with 462,896 tons. This underlined that Türkiye is one of the leading countries in both scrap consumption and imports due to its electric steel production capacity in the domestic steel sector. Türkiye was followed by Mexico with 188,790 tons, Bangladesh with 160,206 tons, Taiwan with 103,337 tons and India with 90,560 tons.

Export value increased

The value of exports made in this period was 556.1 million dollars. The value of exports made in January was 449.2 million dollars.
