U.S. court rules Trump’s 10% global tariffs unlawful

The United States Court of International Trade ruled that U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative to impose a 10% global tariff on imports was unlawful.

U.S. court rules Trump’s 10% global tariffs unlawful

The three-judge panel ruled that the presidential order signed by Trump to implement the tariffs was “invalid” and that there was no legal basis for the duties imposed on the plaintiff companies. The decision was made by a 2-to-1 vote following a lawsuit filed by a group of small businesses.

Trump had previously attempted to implement a similar tariff measure, but the initiative had been blocked by the Supreme Court of the United States. The latest ruling is being viewed as another legal obstacle faced by the administration in this process.

The court also granted injunctive relief in favor of the State of Washington and the small businesses that filed the lawsuit. The ruling stated that the public interest required the issuance of a permanent injunction.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the Trump administration will appeal the decision, although the White House has not yet made an official statement on the matter.
