Ukrainian flat steel exports surge in May 2024

According to the State Customs Service, Ukrainian steel companies significantly boosted exports of flat-rolled products in May 2024, with a 27.5% increase from April, totaling 144.1 thousand tonnes.

According to the data of the State Customs Service, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of flat-rolled products by 27.5% in May 2024 compared to April, reaching 144.1 thousand tonnes. Compared to May 2023, export volumes increased by 23.7%. Export revenue in May also increased by 24.3% compared to April and by 5.2% compared to May 2023, totaling $93.63 million.

In the period from January to May 2024, Ukrainian steel companies exported a total of 676.52 thousand tonnes of flat-rolled products, up 2.2 times year-on-year. Revenue from exports for these five months increased by 96.8%, reaching $421.22 million.

In May, 118,000 tonnes of uncoated hot-rolled flat products were exported, 17% more than in April, worth $73.83 million. This type of product was also the most exported for January-May, amounting to 566.04 thousand tonnes worth $340.5 million.

Exports of uncoated cold-rolled flat products for January-May amounted to 86.6 thousand tonnes worth $56.13 million. In May, exports increased by 147% compared to April, reaching 22.32 thousand tonnes, worth $15.51 million.

Flat-rolled products with galvanic or other coating exported from January-May totaled 22.88 thousand tonnes worth $23.5 million. In May, exports of this product increased by 23.4% compared to April, reaching 3.52 thousand tonnes, and revenue from its shipment increased by 18.4% to $4 million.

Poland (42.9%) and Bulgaria (22.8%) became the main consumers of Ukrainian uncoated flat hot-rolled steel. More than 50% of uncoated cold-rolled flat products were also exported to Poland (40.3%) and Bulgaria (14.1%). Poland (71.9%) and Romania (20.7%) were the leading buyers of coated flat-rolled products.
