The press has entered operation at the new forging workshop located in the TZCO Industrial Park in Yuci District, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, and has begun producing track links for excavators.
In a statement by the company’s management, it was noted that SMS group provided a technologically advanced solution with a high level of automation, and that the new press has expanded TZCO’s forging capacity. The statement also emphasized that the highly precise forging process and minimal flash formation enable material savings and reduce production costs.
As part of the project, SMS group supplied the MP 3150 closed-die forging press with a nominal pressing force of 3,150 tons (31.5 meganewtons), along with complete line engineering and customized digitalization solutions. Designed to operate with high efficiency and precision, the press is capable of reaching up to 30 strokes per minute, while the fully automated line stands out with a cycle time of approximately four seconds per part.
To support high-quality production, SMS group supplied specialized forging equipment and integrated forging simulation, analysis, and optimization solutions alongside process improvement applications. The high-precision piercing method used minimizes flash formation, reducing downstream processing requirements and providing both material and energy savings.
The automation systems included in the line feature a walking beam transfer system with independently servo-driven axes. Optimized acceleration and deceleration profiles supported by sensors provide more stable movement, reduce mechanical wear, and maintain short cycle times. The system also includes automatic die lubrication and spraying systems, a quick die change mechanism, and a double-sided support change carriage.
On the digitalization side, the solutions provided by SMS group have been integrated into the existing process control system, enabling continuous production monitoring and machine data analysis. All key production and energy performance indicators (KPIs) can be monitored in real time through a large-scale control dashboard.
Commenting on the project, SMS group Sales Manager Bernhard Kaminski stated that the company’s experience gained from global projects played a decisive role in this investment. He added that the MP 3150 press stands out not only for its technical performance but also for the measurable efficiency, cost advantages, and part quality it delivers in daily production.
