According to information compiled by SteelRadar from data released by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD), Türkiye’s scrap consumption increased in the first ten months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The data show that, alongside a shift in the production mix, the share of domestic supply increase significantly.
Electric arc furnace (EAF) production, which stood at 21.53 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2024, increased by 5.1% to 22.63 million tonnes in the same period of 2025. In contrast, basic oxygen furnace (BOF) production declined by 7.8%, falling from 9.38 million tonnes to 8.65 million tonnes.
In line with these developments, total scrap consumption increased by 4.2%, from 26.09 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2024 to 27.20 million tonnes in the corresponding period of 2025.
On the supply side, scrap imports decreased while the share of domestic sources strengthened. Scrap imports decreased by 7.3%, from 16.48 million tonnes to 15.28 million tonnes. Meanwhile, domestic scrap supply increased by 24%, rising from 9.61 million tonnes to 11.92 million tonnes. As a result, the share of domestic supply in total scrap consumption climbed from 36.8% to 43.8%.
