Türkiye cooperates with Japan on railway infrastructure

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye will cooperate with Japan for a technological transformation in railway infrastructure.

Türkiye cooperates with Japan on railway infrastructure

He emphasized that the “Zero Energy IoT Series Monitoring System”, currently used in Japan’s high speed train lines, will also be implemented in Türkiye, noting that the system will instantly detect possible displacements in railway infrastructure as well as extraordinary natural events such as floods and landslides caused by climate change.

Uraloğlu emphasized that the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) has long used strong and effective systems in its maintenance and management processes that meet contemporary requirements. He stated that the existing infrastructure includes technological equipment, software and applications compatible with international standards. “TCDD aims to further develop this strong infrastructure by following innovative solutions and bringing the best international practices to our country,” he emphasized.

Within the scope of the project, cooperation was established with the Japan-based company OKI through a grant program supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. The system will be applied on the Polatlı-Konya High-Speed Train Line and the Konya-Karaman-Ulukışla High Speed Train Line. Uraloğlu stated that the system will complement the existing protection measures and strengthen early intervention capacity.

He noted that installation works will begin in October-November, and the system will be monitored and adapted to the field by expert teams for 24 months. The data obtained in this process will be directly used for permanent integration, and OKI solutions will be compared with TCDD’s existing maintenance-repair systems. The works will be carried out with the joint contribution of TCDD engineers and Japanese experts. The technical knowledge and experience gained will be adapted to domestic solutions, ensuring permanent benefits.

The minister emphasized that this will enable further development of the existing infrastructure, increased efficiency in maintenance processes, acceleration of digitalization efforts, and additional technical gains from international field experience. He stated that TCDD continues to use modern and sufficient maintenance management systems in both high speed and conventional lines, and underlined that the project with OKI is a concrete indicator of TCDD’s understanding of continuous infrastructure development, its emphasis on domestic engineering, and its vision of bringing the best international practices to the country.
