Following the monthly inflation rate of 4.18% recorded in April, May’s inflation figures were closely watched by market participants and economists.
According to the official data, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.71% month on month in May. Annual inflation was calculated at 32.61%. The figures indicated a significant slowdown in monthly inflation compared to the previous month, while discussions regarding the trajectory of annual inflation remained in focus.
Data published by independent research groups continued to point to higher inflation levels than the official figures. According to the Inflation Research Group (ENAG), the ENAG Consumer Price Index (E-TÜFE) rose by 2.16% month on month in May 2026. On an annual basis, inflation was calculated at 53.13% during the same period.
