In an interview with Fox News, Trump commented on the US-China trade negotiations. Asked whether he would meet with Xi about the final details of the deal with China, Trump stated, "Yes, I think so. I mean, I'm not sure that would be necessary, but that's what happened in the UK."
Stating that the most remarkable aspect of the agreement is the opening of China to the US business world, Trump stated, “This is like opening up to a whole new world and it will be better for China.”
"One of the things that I think can be most exciting for us and China is that we are trying to open China to business. As you know, we opened up the United States years ago. Now it is time for China to open up, this is part of our agreement and we will open up China."
The escalating tariff crisis between the US and China
On April 2, the Trump administration decided to impose additional tariffs on some of its trading partners, including China. With China's retaliation, there were mutual tariff increases between the two countries, and the US raised its tariffs on China up to 145%. China had also imposed tariffs of up to 125% on US products.
The Washington administration has imposed tariffs on other countries.
