Trasteel acquires Italian steel pipe leader Profilmec Group

Trasteel (50% owned by Giuseppe Mannina, 37% by Cosulich Group and 13% by CEO Gianfranco Imperato), one of the leading Swiss companies in steel trading and transformation, has acquired Profilmec Group together with Profilmec's long-time minority shareholder and CEO Walter Talpo.

Founded in 1961 by Giuseppe Bottanelli, who passed away in January 2022, Profilmec is a leading Italian steel pipe manufacturer with applications in a wide range of sectors across Europe. Profilmec is headquartered in Turin and employs more than 400 workers.

The main production sites are two state-of-the-art production facilities in Racconigi in the North-West of Italy (close to Turin) and Sesto al Reghena in the North-East of the country (close to Pordenone), representing a total area of 450,000 square meters (140,000 square meters covered) and a production capacity of 350,000 tons per year.

The Group also owns Rolm, an engineering company founded in 1973 and specialized in the manufacture and maintenance of pipe production equipment. All current directors and the entire staff of the Profilmec Group in general will continue their duties under the new ownership: "Trasteel's participation represents the best guarantee of the continuity of the business we started in the sixties with our founder and historical President Giuseppe Bottanelli. We are convinced that Trasteel will allow our Group to further develop its internationalization. I would like to thank all Trasteel employees, in particular Gianfranco Imperato, Federico Guiducci, Gabriele Nordio and their legal advisors for the professional and punctual cooperation that led to the completion of the deal."

Gianfranco Imperato, CEO of Trasteel, added: "We are very proud to take control of a historic brand in the European pipe industry. This acquisition fits perfectly with our strategic plan to become a diversified European steel transformer and trader, bringing our total traded and transformed tonnage to over 1.5 million tons per year. We are grateful to Profilmec's management, in particular Profilmec's CFO Mr. Trevisiol, and to the Bottanelli family for their open-mindedness and approachability that made this important deal possible."
