Thyssenkrupp Steel has started laying the foundation for a new annealing and insulating line at its Bochum plant. With an investment of 150 million Euros ($ 161 million), the company plans to bring Bochum to the top in the field of silicon steel production.
According to Thyssenkrupp Steel's claims, the new production unit will be able to produce silicon steel strip, which has particularly homogeneous and magnetic properties, and is further thinned than its current form, and the material produced will be used in the improvement of high-efficiency engines, especially used in electric vehicles.
Thyssenkrupp explained that the process planned to be carried out in its new facility will be carried out in the form of recrystallization of the microstructure of the cold rolled strip during annealing and then integrating it into the desired texture. Said the process was terminated.
The facility, whose technology supplier is SMS Group, will be completed in 2024. According to the plans made by the company for its new production facility, it is said that in the long term, it will produce 218,000 tons/year of non-grained silicon steel strip. . The width of the silica sheet strips to be produced is expected to be between 700 mm and 1,350 mm, and their thicknesses are expected to vary between 0.2 mm and 1 mm.
