Thyssenkrupp sells its steel plant in Gebze

Established 20 years ago in Turkey, Thyssenkrupp Materials Turkey supplies steel to many sectors, from automotive to white goods, especially Arçelik and Bosch.

Thyssenkrupp sells its steel plant in Gebze

Thyssenkrupp is one of the largest industrial companies in the world. The German giant, which emerged with the establishment of two German steel companies, Thyssen, which was founded in 1891, and Krupp, which was founded in 1811, in 1999, operates in many fields from defense to maritime, with a turnover of 28 billion Euros and 103 thousand employees with 670 companies. The company, which has recently entered into a restructuring and focusing strategy, sold its elevator production for 17.2 billion Euros last year. Thyssenkrupp, which reported a loss of 5.5 billion Euros last year, is now exiting another important branch, stainless steel products. Thyssenkrupp will transfer its shares in Italy-based company Acciai Speciali Terni (AST) to Arvedi Group, which is also an Italian. With the completion of the official processes, Thyssenkrupp will leave its most important unit outside the defense industry. The meaning of this sale for Turkey is also very important. AST, owned by the German giant, has 3 facilities in the world. Facilities outside Italy are located in Turkey and Germany. When the deal is completed, the German company will also sell its most important asset in Turkey and exit the steel business.

HAS 750 MILLION LIRA TURNOVER

Established 20 years ago in Turkey, Thyssenkrupp Materials Turkey supplies steel to many sectors, from automotive to white goods, especially Arçelik and Bosch. It processes more than 30 thousand tons of stainless steel in its factory with an open area of 30 thousand square meters and a closed area of 20,000 square meters in the Organized Industrial Zone in Gebze. Most recently, Thyssenkrupp, which invested an additional 2 million Euros in this facility in 2017, expanded its carbon processing business. The turnover of the Turkish unit of the German company is 750 million liras, that is, over 70 million Euros. This sale of the German company is very important for Turkey. Leaving the elevator business as well as steel means a reduction in its assets in Turkey. According to the information I have received, the only relationship Thyssenkrupp has with Turkey is the submarine project.

THE CHINESE WAS DEMANDED

Giants from different countries of the world, including Chinese Baosteel, also aspired to the companies that Thyssenkrupp showcased, including its Turkey unit. The sale is expected to be completed in 2022. Arvedi Group, which is preparing to take the company of Thyssenkrupp in the showcase, was founded in 1963. The company, which is one of the largest in Europe in special steel production, has 3 thousand 600 employees and a turnover of 3.6 billion Euros.
