According to the statement made by ThyssenKrupp, the company announced that it has agreed with SMS Group for the construction of the hydrogen-driven direct reduction plant (DRI) planned to be built at its Duisburg location. As announced by the company, the plant, which will partially replace the blast furnaces, will be the largest direct reduction plant in Germany. It was also stated in the statement that SMS Group will supply two innovative melters to ThyssenKrupp.
While it is known that other German manufacturers are also planning to replace their blast furnaces with direct reduction plants, it is known that Salzgitter will work with Tenova on this issue.
