The first reaction from the USA to Turkey's new economic agreements with Russia

While Turkey's new agreements with Russia, which indicate that it is getting closer in the economic field, were echoed in Western capitals, the US State Department made special statements to Bloomberg HT on the subject. The Ministry stated that they are closely monitoring the developments and that there is no evidence of illegal Russian money in Turkey.

The first reaction from the USA to Turkey's new economic agreements with Russia

The USA State Department responded in writing to Bloomberg HT's questions regarding the meeting of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi and the agreements reached.

"We would like to remind you that Turkey has expressed strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression, and President Erdogan described Russia's action as 'unacceptable,'" the USA State Department said in a statement.

Stating that they also urged Turkey not to become a safe haven for illegal Russian assets or transactions, the US State Department said, "We are monitoring the data carefully and so far there does not appear to be any evidence of illegal Russian money in Turkey."

"We continue to encourage allies to take steps to diversify their energy sources to reduce their energy dependence on Russia," the US State Department said, noting that they are working with Turkey to assist efforts to increase energy security in the long term.
