The first iron ore extracted from Gara Djebilet is being shipped to Tosyalı Algeria

The train carrying approximately 1,450 tons of iron ore departed for Bechar province. The ore will undergo preliminary processing there before being transported to Tosyalı Algeria’s facilities located in the Bethioua area of Oran province.

A ceremony was held to mark the first shipment, attended by officials from the Ministries of Interior, Transport, and Public Works, as well as representatives of the mining sector. The delegation inspected the loading process on site and assessed the current state of the transportation and logistics infrastructure.

Officials emphasized that this shipment represents a significant step in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s objectives to integrate the country’s mineral resources into the economy, strengthen non-hydrocarbon sectors, and accelerate development in the southern regions.

With the implementation of the project, an increase in direct and indirect employment, revitalization of the iron and steel industry, and strengthening of export capacity are expected. It is also stated that Algeria’s competitiveness in regional and international markets will improve.

According to sector officials, the Gara Djebilet site stimated to contain around 3.5 billion tons of reserves is among the country’s largest mining projects. Commercially exploitable reserves are reported to be at around 1.7 billion tons. The mine is expected to boost economic activity in Tindouf and surrounding regions and contribute to local development.

Spanning an area of more than 40,000 hectares, the project aims not only to meet the raw material needs of Algeria’s iron and steel sector but also to pave the way for new industrial investments.
