In 2022, the EU banned the import of rolled steel and semi-finished products from Russia, while providing a grace period until October 1, 2024 for certain types of slabs that strictly meet the necessary technical requirements. The grace period allows NLMK to ship steel slabs for processing in Europe for the production of finished products. The company has production assets in Belgium (NLMK La Louviere, NLMK Clabecq), Denmark (NLMK DanSteel) and Italy (NLMK Verona). In 2021, NLMK supplied its European enterprises, according to the annual report, 2.4 million tons of slabs.
The EU may extend the grace period for imports of Russian slabs until 2028
EU countries intend to approve an extension of the grace period for the import of certain types of Russian semi-finished steel products into the region for another four years. The grace period allows NLMK to ship steel slabs for processing in Europe for the production of finished products.
