The energy crisis also hit the glass industry

Rising natural gas prices have hit glass production in Europe, where energy is used intensively.

The energy crisis also hit the glass industry

The energy crisis that started with the Ukraine war in Europe spread to glass production.

According to the news of The Wall Street Journal, the fact that the energy used in glass production in Europe is mostly supplied from Russian natural gas has begun to affect production negatively.

Glass manufacturers in Europe and companies that use glass products in production, such as bottle manufacturers, automotive and construction manufacturers, are preparing for an emergency plan due to the shortage in natural gas supply.

Silja Pieh, head of strategy at automaker Audi, said Russia's drastic reduction in gas supplies to Germany could cause a new crisis.

PRICES INCREASING

The European beverage industry is also under pressure. Some bottle suppliers, including at least two producers operating in Ukraine, had to close factories and limit production. Others have also started raising prices.

COMPANIES GO TO STOCK

Companies have already started to stock bottles by renting additional storage space.

BOTTLES PROTECTION

UK-based delivery company Milk and More said they are trying to increase the average life of their glass bottles. The company has begun taking measures to protect its bottles, including scanners to detect damaged bottles.

PRODUCTION IN REGIONS WITH LOW GAS PRICES

In addition to these measures, some glass manufacturers are switching from natural gas to petroleum or diesel. Some major producers are also considering transferring some of their production to regions with lower gas prices.
