Tenova announced that it has signed a contract with Vinton Steel for the delivery of a state-of-the-art walking hearth reheating furnace.

Tenova installs new high-tech reheating furnace for Vinton Steel

The new furnace will be designed to meet the demanding process requirements of high-carbon steel billets used in the production of large-diameter grinding media. This segment stands out as an area where Vinton Steel holds a leading position in the regional market, driven particularly by strong demand from the mining industry.

The reheating furnace has been designed to be fully compatible with Vinton Steel’s recently announced Green CityMill™ Flex platform, which aims to increase rebar production capacity to 400,000 t/y. Positioned at the core of the company’s growth and modernization strategy, Green CityMill™ Flex is recognized today as one of the most efficient and sustainable long steel production platforms available in the market. The new furnace is scheduled to start operations in parallel with the commissioning of the Green CityMill™ Flex in the first half of 2027.

Masahiro Kitada, Board Director & Executive Managing Officer of Kyoei Steel Group, and President of Vinton Steel, commented: “This project is part of the strategic expansion of Kyoei Steel in the vital North American market and a clear demonstration of our long-term commitment to the State of Texas. We are executing the largest investment in our company’s history, and with this additional project, we contribute even more to the continued growth of the El Paso region.”

Francesco Memoli, President & CEO of Tenova Inc., added: “We are honored that Vinton Steel continues to place its trust in Tenova’s technologies. This new reheating furnace will be the most advanced of its kind, equipped with sophisticated control systems and our proprietary low-NOx burners. It will enable Vinton Steel to broaden its grinding media product range while meeting the most stringent environmental regulations.”
