The facility, which will support the project jointly developed by TotalEnergies, APA Corporation and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV, will strengthen Tenaris' investment in Suriname's energy sector by providing integrated solutions for offshore operations.
According to the company, the service center was strategically designed to support TotalEnergies' operational requirements for tubing, casing and related services supplied by Tenaris. Operating under the Rig Direct® service model, the facility will enhance supply chain coordination while ensuring the timely availability of materials required for offshore operations.
Drilling preparations accelerate for the GranMorgu project
Tenaris Andean and Caribbean Region President Duilio Pesce said Suriname's energy sector is entering a new phase of development and expressed pride in supporting TotalEnergies' GranMorgu project with the company's expertise in complex offshore operations.
Pesce stated that the GranMorgu project requires advanced technology products, comprehensive service solutions and the highest safety standards, adding that Tenaris combines its global experience with local capabilities. He emphasized that the investment in the new service center reflects the company's confidence in Suriname, its institutions and its local workforce.
TotalEnergies Senior Vice President Americas Exploration & Production Javier Rielo said the GranMorgu project is progressing as planned and drilling activities are expected to begin this year. He noted that the opening of the Tenaris service center marks an important milestone in the project's execution phase, enabling the gradual delivery of drilling equipment to the country.
Rielo also said that GranMorgu is not only a technical energy project but also a long-term industrial opportunity for Suriname, adding that it will contribute to the development of local capabilities, the creation of new jobs and the establishment of a sustainable offshore industrial ecosystem.
74,500-square-meter facility supported by digital technologies
The service center, built on a total area of 74,500 square meters with a storage capacity of 15,000 mt, includes a logistics yard and inspection line where pipes are prepared, verified and undergo quality control before being shipped to offshore fields. The objective is to deliver pipes ready for installation, improving both efficiency and safety in offshore operations.
Operations at the facility will be supported by the PipeTracer® system, which enables the traceability of each individual pipe. In addition, the Rig Direct® Portal digital platform will be used to manage orders, shipments, returned equipment from offshore platforms and documentation processes in real time.
Tenaris said the new service center, developed in line with TotalEnergies' long-term growth vision for the region, is intended to contribute to Suriname's sustainable industrial development by increasing local employment, strengthening the local supply chain and supporting knowledge transfer.
