Taiwan’s scrap imports decrease due to high purchase of domestic scrap

According to statistics, as of November, Taiwan’s scrap imports totaled around 2.65 million tons. The import volume was expected to be less than 3 million tons this year due to steel mills’ tendency to purchase lower-priced domestic scrap. This situation will be more obvious next year.

Besides, some steel mills turned to buy billets for steelmaking, which was also a reason for the decreased scrap imports. In the first 11 months of this year, the imports of billet have exceeded 1.8 million tons, compared to yearly imports of 1.3 million tons in pasts years.
