Taiwan's major steelmakers announce new prices

Taiwan-based wire rod and cable producer Walsin Lihwa announced its prices for May.

Prices for the 300 series were increased by NTD 5,000 (USD 155) per ton. In addition, surcharges for 316 and copper-containing welded products were increased by NTD 1,000-3,000 (USD 31-93) per ton. For the 200 series, prices increased by NTD 2,000 (USD 62) per ton, while prices for the 400 series remained unchanged.

Yieh Hsing Enterprise Co. Ltd., another major wire rod producer in Taiwan, said that it raised the prices of most of its products for May due to rising production costs.

The price of carbon wire rod increased by NTD 1,000 (USD 31) per ton. In stainless steel, the price of 300 series stainless steel wire rod increased by NTD 5,000 (USD 155) per ton. The surcharge for 316 series products increased by NTD 1,000-3,000 per ton (USD 31-93). The 200 series increased by NTD 2,000 (USD 62) per ton, while the 400 series remained stable.

Finally, Feng Hsin Steel Co. Ltd. announced its product prices for the current week. Rebar was unchanged at NTD 19,700 (USD 611) per ton, scrap at NTD 11,100 (USD 344), and steel section at NTD 26,700 (USD 828).

Walsin Lihwa attributes these price adjustments to sustained increases in nickel, molybdenum, and copper prices, as well as significant increases in production costs due to the depreciation of the Taiwanese dollar. Moreover, the Taiwan Economic Research Institute's business climate index showed steady growth for four months, indicating a gradual recovery in the market.
