Moderated by Mauro Bianchi Ferri, Managing Director of Acciarium Alliance, the panel featured distinguished speakers including Said Alameddine, President of ALTech Group; Javier Castiñeira, Global HSE Director at Resonac; Moataz El Kelany, Environmental Engineer at Ezz Steel; Miriam Schnalzger, Global OEM Steel Coating Specialist at RHI Magnesita; and Alexander Laugier-Werth, Vice President of HSE and Quality at Vesuvius.

Key topics addressed during the session included innovative approaches to reducing carbon emissions in the production of iron ore, refractories, and graphite electrodes, as well as energy-efficient technologies and waste management solutions. The panelists highlighted the environmental and operational benefits offered by advanced refractory materials and cutting-edge graphite electrode designs.

Said Alameddine emphasized the role of refractories in sustainable production processes, outlining innovative techniques used to minimize environmental impact. Javier Castiñeira discussed how the integration of global Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards into steel production processes strengthens sustainability efforts.

Moataz El Kelany of Ezz Steel highlighted the role of environmental engineering in emissions reduction, while Miriam Schnalzger from RHI Magnesita shared insights into the latest developments in refractory linings that contribute to more sustainable steel operations. Alexander Laugier-Werth of Vesuvius pointed out the strategic contribution of quality assurance and environmental management to sustainability goals.

Throughout the panel, speakers underlined the importance of collaboration between steel producers and suppliers in achieving sustainability targets. Participants stressed that joint solutions and information sharing are critical to reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.

The session attracted considerable interest from industry leaders, academics, and policymakers in the audience. The panel featured interactive polls and a Q&A segment, reflecting the strong engagement and interest in sustainable steel production.

This panel not only contributed to advancing sustainable production approaches in the MENA region and globally but also fostered a shared understanding of the need to accelerate the industry's transition with environmentally friendly solutions.
