According to foreign sources; The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that the US imported a total of 3,010,000 net tons (NT) of steel in July 2021, including 2,060,000 net tons (NT) of finished steel (up 2.8). % and 0.5%, respectively, according to the final data of June). Total and finished steel imports in the first seven months of 2021 were 17,729,000 and 12,086,000 net tons (NT), up 17.4 percent and 20.6 percent, respectively, compared to the same period of 2020. Annual total and finished steel imports in 2021 are NT 30.4 and 20.7 million, up 38.0% and 28.4 percent, respectively, compared to 2020. Final steel import market share is estimated at 21% in July and 20% in the first seven months of 2021.

The main finished steel products, whose imports increased significantly in July compared to June, are sheet and strip all other metallic coatings (48% increase), galvanized hot-dip sheet and strip (29% increase), mechanical pipe (25% increase), tin plate ( up to 16%), heavy structural shapes (up to 14%) and cut-to-length sheets (up to 11%). Products that saw a significant year-on-year increase (YTD) compared to the same period of 2020 included hot rolled plates (up 76%), plates in coils (52% up), cut-length plates (44% up), and plates.

All other metallic coatings (up to 41%), wire rods (up to 40%), rolled wire (up to 22%), hot rolled bars (up to 17%), heavy structural shapes (up to 16%) up to 13%), tin plates (up to 13%), sheets and strip hot-dip galvanized (up to 12%) and cold rolled sheet (up to 12%).

In July, the top offshore imports of finished steel were South Korea (NT293,000, up 7%, up 7% from final June), Vietnam (101,000 NT, up 165%), Taiwan (NT77,000, down 8%), Germany (NT 70,000, 27%). decrease) and Japan (67,000 NT, 44% decrease). In the first seven months of 2021, the largest offshore suppliers were South Korea (1,624,000 NT, up 27% compared to the same period of 2020), Japan (NT 590,000, up 22%), Turkey (NT 485,000, up 29%). . , Germany (NT 480,000, up 14%) and Taiwan (NT 434,000, up 17%).
