The service package included the online measurement and adjustment of gears on both sides of the slab sizing press, disassembly, offline inspections and testing, as well as the replacement of bearings on drive and output shafts. All work was executed as part of the mill’s scheduled annual overhaul for 2025.
Throughout the project, SMS group provided continuous support, ranging from initial technical consulting and precise project planning to supervision of assembly and on-site commissioning processes.
Production performance: Outperforming design capacity
Since its commissioning with SMS equipment in 1989, Baosteel’s 2,050 mm hot strip mill has played a key role in China’s industrial development. In 2013, SMS group installed a slab sizing press to further increase the mill’s capacity. Originally designed for an annual output of 4 million tons, the mill has consistently achieved an average of 5 million tons and, at times, up to 6 million tons. By 2011, total production had exceeded 100 million tons, underlining the facility’s central role in China’s industrial landscape.
