SMS group has announced a partnership with US-based The Systems Group. The collaboration aims to offer safer, more sustainable, and maintenance-friendly solutions to steelmaking plants operating electric arc furnaces (EAF) and secondary metallurgy units.
Under the agreement, SMS group will provide Spray-Cooled® EAF roofs, sidewalls, hoods, and ducts as part of its integrated solutions for both new installations and upgrades of existing plants.
Spray-Cooled® technology operates at atmospheric pressure, unlike conventional tubular cooling systems, eliminating serious safety risks such as high-pressure water leaks. The system also offers key advantages in heat retention, emission reduction, energy efficiency, and ease of maintenance. Thanks to its flexible design, which adapts to different furnace geometries, it is an ideal solution for producers seeking high uptime and long equipment life.
Andrea Lanari, Vice President Metallurgy at SMS group, stated, “At SMS group, our mission is to deliver the best to our customers – not only in performance and efficiency, but also in workplace safety and sustainability. Partnering with The Systems Group allows us to bring a proven, field-tested technology to our customers that aligns with these values.”
Lee Morgan, CEO and owner of The Systems Group, stated, “I am very excited about this partnership with SMS. Systems and SMS have dozens of successful installations together – making melt shops safer and delivering the most uptime of any electric arc furnace package on the market.”
Thanks to this partnership, steel producers will benefit from an integrated package that combines SMS’s global engineering and project expertise with The Systems Group’s decades of field experience and patented cooling solutions.
