Slovakia announces 150 million euros fund for industrial decarbonization

Slovak Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba announced the launch of a second round of funding worth 150 million euros to support industrial decarbonization.

Slovakia announces 150 million euros fund for industrial decarbonization

The program aims to help companies improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower the cost of emission allowances. The fund is financed by the European Union.

According to the ministry’s statement, the call will be open to companies covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), which account for roughly 90% of all industrial emissions. There will be no minimum or maximum grant amount per application. Projects will be selected based on the lowest emission reduction cost per ton and the total amount of emissions saved.

Each project must achieve a reduction of at least 10.000 tons of CO₂ equivalent, calculated against the average of verified emission reports from the past five years. Any exceptional year will be excluded from the calculation. Eligible costs will cover only investment expenses directly related to the project’s implementation and incurred after the application submission.

Minister Taraba stated, “The call is designed to increase the chances of funding for those who can guarantee the greatest emission reduction with the least financial support.”
