Deutsche Erz-und Metall-Union GmbH (DEUMU), a subsidiary of German steelmaker Salzgitter AG, has acquired the recycling company Must-Metalle-Container-Recycling GmbH (MMCR). With this acquisition, the Salzgitter Group aims to significantly expand its scrap recycling business. Salzgitter stated that it aims to reduce CO2 emissions by using secondary raw materials in steel production. It has been announced that the name of MMCR, which will operate as an independent enterprise within the Salzgitter Group, will be changed to "Harzer Schrott und Recycling GmbH".
