The interruption began in February, but recent trade data shows a notable rebound.
In April alone, Russian coal exports to Brazil reached $13.8 million — the highest monthly volume since November 2024, when shipments totaled $14.4 million.
This resurgence placed Russia fourth among Brazil’s coal suppliers for the month. The United States maintained its lead with $139.3 million in exports, followed by Australia with $94.9 million and Colombia with $36.6 million.
Meanwhile, Russia’s domestic coal production also showed growth. In the first quarter of 2025, total output rose by 3% year-on-year to 111 million tons. Of this, 85.3 million tons (+2.2%) accounted for hard coal.
