Renewable energy: Regulations key to competitiveness

The Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) paid a visit to the Aegean Exporters' Associations, aiming to foster collaboration and discuss the growth of the wind energy sector. The delegation, led by TÜREB Chairman Ibrahim Erden, included key figures from the organization. They met with Aegean Exporters' Association officials, including Deputy Coordinator President Yalçın Ertan and Deputy General Secretary Kemal Coşkun, to exchange insights on the sector's potential and challenges.Discussions centered around the need for increased renewable energy investments in Türkiye, highlighting both the opportunities and obstacles the sector faces. TÜREB emphasized their commitment to promoting wind energy and raising its profile nationally.

Establishing a new association under the umbrella of the Aegean Exporters' Associations will propel the renewable energy sector forward.

Yalçın Ertan, Deputy Coordinator President of the Aegean Exporters' Associations and President of the Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association, expressed his satisfaction with the recent visit, highlighting the need for policy changes to bolster the competitiveness of Türkiye's renewable energy sector. Ertan pointed out that the lack of import taxes on finished wind turbine products puts local manufacturers at a disadvantage. He argued that while finished turbines are tax-free, materials used in their production are subject to taxes, making it difficult for companies to invest in this area. This ultimately leads to foreign currency losses for Türkiye and increases the risk of investments flowing to other countries. He emphasized that the lack of import taxes on finished products makes it difficult for Turkish manufacturers to compete in the early stages of the sector. "We need regulations that protect the competitiveness of our producers and drive the development of the sector," he stressed. Ertan also noted that Izmir and the Aegean region have naturally become a hub for renewable energy equipment production. He believes that establishing a dedicated association within the Aegean Exporters' Associations will further promote export-oriented growth in this sector, making it more competitive on a global scale.

TÜREB Chairman of the Board Ibrahim Erden stated that their primary goals are to increase renewable energy investments at the national level, promoting these efforts and raising the visibility of the sector. "Renewable energy capacity expansion can be developed very quickly," he continued, "and it is our priority for our country to benefit from this intense global transformation.
