Producers are demanding a base price of €430-440/t ex-works from this week, but sources believe that contract values will increase only marginally as demand tightens. This move is only aimed at halting the price decline seen in recent weeks.
However, some restocking took place before the increases. Distributors bought material on the back of better demand from construction sites, which have resumed work after recent bad weather hampered their ability to operate. Sales were realised on ex-works basis of €340-360/t until last week. Domestic contracts including size extras are still at €600-630/t ex-works, unchanged from last week. Buyers are currently adopting a wait-and-see attitude and plan to wait for values to start falling again in a few weeks.
Italian producers are demanding €430/t ex-works for wire mesh. On top of that, buyers are paying €300/t size surcharge and transport.
