Primetals Technologies receives final acceptance certificate for hot rolling mill modernization in Türkiye

In the first phase of the project, the process automation system was renewed, while in the second phase, the basic automation system was upgraded and advanced profile and flatness control was implemented. In addition, the ALEX system, which provides condition monitoring for the mills, was commissioned, and production was restarted as planned following the installation.

Advanced strip profile and flatness quality

The Turkish steel producer took into consideration factors such as continuous support from hot rolling mill automation experts, increased spare parts availability, and improvements in strip profile and flatness quality when selecting Primetals Technologies.

During the installation and commissioning process, the experienced team of Primetals Technologies made a significant contribution to ensuring uninterrupted operation time and high safety standards.

In the first phase, a new Level 2 automation system was installed, fully integrated into the producer’s existing virtualized infrastructure. This system shortens IT response times while also facilitating lifecycle management.

Second phase: Level 1 automation

In the second phase, the basic automation hardware was replaced with a modern solution, and the application software was migrated to the latest PCS7 platform. The data communication system was also updated.

The newly installed Contour and Flatness Optimizer system enables detailed analysis of strip profile and flatness behavior across all rolling passes. With advanced process models and optimized control, the system also provides shadow mode support, allowing calibration of models prior to startup.

In the final acceptance test, more than 2,300 products were produced, exceeding contractual requirements, while high performance in strip profile and flatness control was achieved.
