Primetals Technologies launches a new era in the industry with Shagang's Castrip line

Shagang Group, in collaboration with Primetals Technologies and Castrip, has installed three new Castrip lines for thin sheet production. These new lines have increased the capacity to produce ultra-thin strip by reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon emissions.

Primetals Technologies launches a new era in the industry with Shagang's Castrip line

Following the successful commissioning of the first two lines, Shagang Group granted Primetals Technologies a final acceptance certificate (FAC). Thus, Shagang Group continues production with a total of four Castrip lines. Primetals Technologies engineered and supplied the mechanical equipment, technological packages and automation systems for the project.

These lines operate with fully integrated automation systems that control the entire casting and rolling processes. The Castrip plants offer high flexibility in the production of ultra-thin strip (UCS), known for its low energy consumption and low emission levels. Two main factors contribute to this success: the elimination of the need to reheat the strip and the production of near net shape strip, which reduces the need for rolling force.

These new lines enable the production of ultra-thin cast strips and hot-rolled coils used in a wide range of applications, such as in the construction, automotive, agriculture and welded pipe industries. In addition, product diversity is increased with the production of cold rolled products as thin as 0.25 millimeters.

As a licensee of Castrip, Primetals Technologies continues to provide equipment and automation for the Castrip plants. These new technological developments are seen as an important step towards energy savings and environmental sustainability in the steelmaking industry.
