According to data obtained by SteelRadar from the European Commission, in the second month of the new quota period between January 1 and March 31, countries used some quotas at full capacity, while the quota usage of some products exceeded 50%.
Especially China, India and Turkey used some of the products allocated to them at full capacity from their import quotas.
South Korea used HRC
On a product basis, countries mostly filled their quotas for HRC,4B metallic sheet and wire rod. HRC, which is one of the highest quota amounts allocated to countries, South Korea 43.25% of 184,008/t quota, India 24.46% of 574,440/t quota, Turkey 7.68% of 1,058,912/t quota, The United Kingdom used 2.77% of the 372,419/t HRC quota, and Serbia used 16.81% of the 302,436/t HRC quota.
China has exhausted its 4B metallic coated sheet quota
For 4B metallic coated sheets, China has used the entire quota of 126,603/t. South Korea followed China. South Korea has consumed 29.10% of its 177,349/t import quota, the United Kingdom has consumed 9.89% of its 41,360/t 4B metallic coated sheet quota, and India has consumed 4.93% of its 75,616/t quota.
In wire rod, Türkiye used 54.97% of the initial quota of 145,172/t. Moldova used 9.12% of the 117,692/t quota, Switzerland used 5.94% of the 296,969/t quota, and the United Kingdom used 3.38% of the 441,222/t quota.
Although the countries have only used 16.76% of the total import quota, China has fully utilized the 4B metallic coated sheets quota of 126,603 tons, the pipe (other welded) quota of 7,971 tons and the sheet pile quota of 6,910 tons, while India has an initial quota of 31,333 tons of stainless bars and Turkey used the entire light profile quota of 14,743/t pipe (wide seam) and 1,536/t railway materials.
