Nucor will invest $59 million in its Vulcraft facility in Indiana

U.S.-based steel producer Nucor announced that it will make a $59 million investment to expand the capacity of its Vulcraft production facility in Indiana. As part of the investment, the facility is set to gain the capability to produce steel grating products, and 20 new jobs are expected to be created by the end of 2027.

Nucor will invest $59 million in its Vulcraft facility in Indiana

According to a statement from the office of Indiana Governor Mike Braun, Nucor will construct a new production facility spanning approximately 11,800 square meters on its existing 250-dönüm site in St. Joe, DeKalb County, and will make the necessary equipment investments.

With the new facility, Vulcraft Indiana will be able to produce steel grating products used in industrial floors and stair treads.

The facility’s product range will expand

The St. Joe facility currently produces steel beams, lattice girders, and steel flooring products used primarily in the non-residential construction sector. With this new investment, the facility’s production capabilities will be expanded to include steel grating products.

John Hollatz, Vice President of Fabricated Construction Products at Nucor, stated that the investment will enable the company to expand its Vulcraft operations in Indiana, better serve customers, and strengthen its final product manufacturing capabilities.

Hollatz also noted that Vulcraft was the facility where Nucor’s operations in the steel sector began and that it continues to play a significant role in the company’s growth.

Approximately 300 people are employed

The Vulcraft facility in St. Joe currently employs approximately 300 people. The average wages for the 20 full-time positions to be created as part of the new investment are expected to exceed 150% of the DeKalb County average.

Groundbreaking for Nucor’s expansion project is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
