Fortescue Metals shipped record quantities of iron ore in the six months leading up to December, as its traditional business provided a powerful platform for the company's high-risk return to clean energy.
In July-December, 96.9 million tons of iron ore was shipped. It increased by 4% compared to the previous year's period and by 17% compared to the equivalent period four years ago.
Forrest said the company is fully focused on Iron Bridge, but has reduced expectations that full production will be reached quickly. Forrest has suggested that it will supply 1 million tons of magnetite concentrate for Iron Bridge, according to the latest update. Construction costs are close to US$3.8 billion. ($5.3 billion)
Although Iron Bridge will experience further delays and cost explosions in the coming months, Fortescue's existing mines could reach the company's goal of exporting between 187 million and 192 million tons this year, it is suggested.
Record shipments of nearly 97 million tonnes in the past six months mark the fifth consecutive year of first-half export growth.
