Malaysia's Eastern Steel officially opened its second blast furnace

Malaysian steelmaker Eastern Steel has officially put into service its second blast furnace with an annual capacity of 1.7 million tons after two months of experimental production. This expansion is expected to increase the supply of steel plate. Eastern Steel previously operated a blast furnace with an annual capacity of 700,000 tonnes.

Malaysia's Eastern Steel officially opened its second blast furnace

The company focuses on plate production, with particular emphasis on the export of these products. Although the commissioning of the second blast furnace is expected to increase billet supplies, Eastern Steel has not yet started active negotiations with major buyers in Turkey and Europe.

Eastern Steel is likely to concentrate on neighboring markets in the near future. In the next phase of the development projects, a hot rolling line with an annual capacity of approximately 2 million tons is planned for 2024, with the first commercial production of hot rolled coils expected in the second half of the same year.
