Malaysia aims to reduce carbon emissions with green steel project

The project highlights Sabah's investments in sustainable energy, waste management and environmentally friendly solutions. As part of the agreement, an agreement was made between natural gas supplier SEC and Esteel Sabah to supply 150 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

SEC will provide 100 mmscfd of natural gas for Esteel Sabah's steelmaking plant, and an additional 50 mmscfd of natural gas will be provided for electricity generation over the next 20 years.

The green steel project is a project that adopts an environmentally friendly production process by reducing carbon emissions through the use of natural gas. Esteel Sabah's facility in Sipitang costs US$1.93 billion and is scheduled to be completed by 2026. This project aims to create approximately 2,795 job opportunities by contributing to regional development.
