KIOCL mostly gets raw material from NMDC's Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh state, and also sources from other domestic and overseas supplies.
The firm produced 1.51mn t of pellets in the April 2022-March 2023 fiscal year, down 26% on the year, and sold 1.46mn t of pellets during 2022-23, of which exports accounted for 87%.
Overall, KIOCL's pellet plant is facing challenges in securing raw materials and maintaining consistent operations. This could have implications for India's steel industry, as KIOCL is a major supplier of pellets to domestic steelmakers.
