Karabük Iron and Steel Factories (KARDEMİR) has commissioned two more important investments to increase its production capability and reduce foreign dependency in strategic sectors. The company put its second vacuum plant into service for value-added steel production, and started production of subway and locomotive wheels in rail systems.
According to the company's statement, the new vacuum facility, which was commissioned on May 27, 2025 after the hot tests were completed, has an annual production capacity of 1 million tons. This investment will enable the production of steels for sectors that require high quality standards, such as automotive, defense industry and machinery manufacturing.
On the other hand, KARDEMİR also produced two new products at the Railway Wheel Production Facility. The M3 subway wheel and locomotive wheel with a diameter of 1250 mm, produced for the first time, aim to reduce Turkey's foreign dependency in rail systems. The company stated that although these products are still in raw form, they will be commercialized in the future and will play a more active role in the rail system supply chain.
In the evaluation made by KARDEMİR management, it was emphasized that these investments are concrete steps of the company's vision of domestic and national production. It was also stated that both investments were realized in line with sustainability, quality and technology-oriented growth strategies.
The management thanked all employees who contributed to the projects and stated that the company will continue to expand its high value-added product range in the coming period.
