The company published a new price list and started domestic billet sales, attracting considerable attention in the market.
The price per tonne of 150 mm square billet was increased by $15/tonne from the price list published two weeks ago to $525-535 per tonne ex-works, excluding 20% VAT.
Kardemir reportedly sold around 60,000 tonnes of billet within a few hours of this move and then halted sales. Turkish re-rollers and some mills facing difficulties in export markets have favoured Kardemir's billet to avoid billet import duties.
However, other steel mills in southern and western Turkiye remained competitive on Wednesday, offering ex-factory billet at $540-550 and $535-540, respectively. Selling prices for import billets were quoted at $500-532 cfr Turkiye, depending on the seller and the port of destination.
Kardemir's competitive prices and deferred payment options continue to attract buyers and the steel industry is eagerly waiting to see how this dynamic market will shape up.
