In a statement released by the company, it was noted that KARDEMİR, one of Türkiye’s integrated steel producers, continues its export oriented growth in high value added product groups with determination. In this context, the company stated that it is continuing to bring its production strength in the railway industry to international markets.
The statement announced that a railway wheel supply agreement worth approximately USD 2.25 million had been signed between KARDEMİR and a customer operating in the Czech Republic. It was emphasized that the railway wheels to be produced under the contract will be among the products manufactured by KARDEMİR and shipped to international markets for the first time. In this respect, the agreement was described as an important milestone for the development of the company’s product portfolio and the enhancement of its presence in export markets. It was also reported that the first shipment under the contract was successfully completed as of yesterday.
The statement highlighted that, with its Railway Wheel Production Facility commissioned in 2019, KARDEMİR is Türkiye’s first and only railway wheel manufacturer. It was noted that the facility, which has an annual production capacity of 200,000 units, enables the production of various types of railway wheels used in freight and passenger wagons, locomotives, high speed trains, and light rail systems in accordance with international standards.
It was further stated that KARDEMİR has played a pioneering role in meeting Türkiye’s railway wheel demand, which had long been satisfied through imports, with domestic and national resources. Thanks to its production capacity and technical capabilities, the company contributes to meeting domestic demand while steadily increasing its exports of high value added products.
The statement also noted that the company continues to expand its customer portfolio across different regions, particularly in Europe, and is strengthening its presence in international markets through its expertise in railway wheel production, quality oriented approach, and commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
Finally, it was emphasized that KARDEMİR will continue to contribute to the development of Türkiye’s railway industry through its competencies in the production of railway wheels, wheelsets, and railway rails, while increasing exports in strategic product groups and creating value for the national economy.
