Jiuli orders three new cold pilger rolling mills from SMS group

Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals Co., Ltd. (Jiuli), one of China’s leading manufacturers of stainless steel and special alloy products, has placed an order with SMS group for three new cold pilger rolling mills to increase production capacity and manufacture high-quality seamless drawn tubes.

Jiuli orders three new cold pilger rolling mills from SMS group

The equipment ordered for the production site in Huzhou city, Zhejiang Province, consists of one KPW 50 LC model and two KPW 25 LC models.

The new investments aim to expand Jiuli’s production capacity of drawn tubes for demanding applications such as instrumentation and steam generation, in line with the company’s global market growth objectives. Jiuli currently exports high-performance tube products to more than 70 countries, and with the new pilger mills supplied by SMS group, it aims to increase manufacturing efficiency.

Cold pilger rolling mills ensure high precision in controlling the wall thickness of tubes, thereby improving the mechanical properties and overall quality of the products. Jiuli has previously operated various pilger mills from SMS group with different capacities successfully. This new investment in three machines is considered a key part of the company’s extensive growth strategy aimed at increasing both capacity and quality in the production of stainless steel and special alloy seamless tubes.

The KPW 50 LC model is capable of reducing starting tubes with diameters ranging from 64 to 25 millimeters down to final diameters between 48 and 14 millimeters. Operating with a maximum rolling force of 1,000 kilonewtons and at a speed of 200 strokes per minute, this machine delivers high precision, allowing tubes to be produced within the required wall thickness and diameter tolerances, and ensuring excellent mechanical properties.

The two KPW 25 LC models are designed for producing smaller diameter tubes. They reduce starting tubes with diameters ranging from 38 to 12 millimeters down to final diameters between 30 and 8 millimeters. With a maximum rolling force of 440 kilonewtons, these machines achieve high-speed production at 320 strokes per minute. Their advanced feed motion control ensures uniform wall thickness distribution and high surface quality—critical factors for applications demanding high precision and reliability.

The scope of SMS group’s delivery is not limited to mechanical equipment alone. The order also includes integrated electrical and automation systems, fluid systems, all necessary tools, and spare parts. Technical support will also be provided during installation, commissioning, and testing phases.

The cooperation between SMS group and Jiuli dates back to 2010. Since then, several cold pilger mills of various capacities have been successfully integrated into Jiuli’s production lines. Emphasizing the long-term partnership, Jiuli Chairman Li Zhengzhou stated: “With over 30 years of operational experience, we are committed to producing tubes that can serve our customers safely for 50, 60, or even 100 years. The high deformation capability and precision achieved through SMS group’s cold pilger mills guarantee the performance and longevity of these products. Yes, this equipment is costly, but considering the value it provides throughout the product’s entire life cycle, our investment is rational. That is why we intend to continue working with SMS group to enhance our ability to supply high-quality and highly reliable materials on a global scale.”
