According to data released by the Italian Steel Producers' Association (Federacciai), Italy's steel production increased by 6% y/y in March, an increase of 3.1% compared to the first quarter of the year. The improvement in steel production was spread across both hot-rolled product families, with long products increasing by 1.2% and flat products by 13.6%.
In the first quarter of 2025, Italy's total steel production amounted to 5.5 million tons. This represents a y/y increase of 3.1% compared to the same period last year.
In March, the country's steelmakers produced a total of 2 million tons of steel, an increase of 6% compared to the same period last year. This increase helped to offset the sharp decline recorded last year.
Last month, the rebound in production was particularly pronounced in two hot-rolled product families. Long product output increased by 1.2% to 1.2 million tons, while flat product production increased by 13.6% to 904 thousand tons. After a production decrease in February, long products production rose by 9.9%, while flat products increased by 9.1%.
