The strong increase following the limited 0.2% rise recorded in March indicated an acceleration in production.
According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the Italian steel producers association Federacciai, total crude steel production in the first four months of the year reached 7.6 million tons. This figure represented a 2.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
A significant divergence was observed among product groups in April. Hot-rolled long product production reached 1.2 million tons, recording a 12.3% year-on-year increase. In this segment, total production for the January–April period reached 4.6 million tons, while the annual increase climbed to 10.5%.
In contrast, hot-rolled flat product production remained at 743,000 tons in April, showing a 9.3% year-on-year decline. Flat product production totaled 3.1 million tons in the first four months of the year, continuing its weak trend with a 6.7% decrease.
