Iran claims it struck a U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz

In a statement by the Public Relations Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, it was reported that the movements of U.S. warships in and around the Strait of Hormuz are being closely monitored.

Iran claims it struck a U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz

The statement said that some U.S. destroyers approaching the Strait of Hormuz via the Sea of Oman attempted to advance into the area with their radars turned off, and were detected by the Iranian navy once their radar systems were reactivated. The Iranian side stated that warnings were issued to the vessels via radio, clearly indicating that unauthorized entry into the Strait would not be permitted.

According to the statement, after U.S. warships continued their activities despite the warnings, the Iranian naval forces carried out “warning shots” using cruise missiles, rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles. It was noted that these strikes were directed at the vicinity of the vessels and were not intended for direct destruction or targeting.

Meanwhile, claims based on local sources suggested that some U.S. naval assets were hit and forced to withdraw. However, these claims have not been confirmed by independent sources.

Iranian officials emphasized that passage through the Strait of Hormuz is not possible without Iran’s permission and stated that any military violation in the region would be met with a decisive response.
