Inflation exceeds 60% in Türkiye

Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK) published the inflation data for September. According to the data, annual inflation exceeded the 60 percent threshold and reached the highest level of the year.

Inflation exceeds 60% in Türkiye

Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK) announced the consumer inflation data for September. While monthly inflation was 4.75 percent in September, annual inflation rose to 61.53 percent.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK) data, consumer prices increased by 4.75 percent in September compared to the previous month.

The upward trend in core inflation also continued. Annual core inflation was 68.93 percent in September. In August, annual core inflation was recorded as 64.85 percent.

Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 47.44 percent annually and 3.40 percent monthly

D-PPI (2003=100) increased by 3.40 percent in September 2023 compared to the previous month, 36.06 percent compared to December of the previous year, 47.44 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and 65.55 percent compared to the twelve-month averages.

Manufacturing index increased by 55.05 percent y-o-y

Annual changes in the four sectors of industry were as follows: 69.43 percent increase in mining and quarrying, 55.05 percent increase in manufacturing, 17.08 percent decrease in electricity, gas production and distribution, and 68.36 percent increase in water supply.

Annual changes in the main industrial groupings were 45.79 percent in intermediate goods, 61.94 percent in durable consumer goods, 67.98 percent in non-durable consumer goods, 13.41 percent in energy and 65.83 percent in capital goods.

Among the four main sectors of industry, manufacturing index increased by 3.07 percent on a monthly basis

Monthly changes in four sectors of the industry; mining and quarrying by 5.97 percent, manufacturing by 3.07 percent, electricity, gas production and distribution by 5.47 percent and water supply by 13.72 percent.

Monthly changes in the main industrial groups were realized as 1.92 percent increase in intermediate goods, 3.73 percent in durable consumer goods, 4.80 percent in non-durable consumer goods, 6.12 percent in energy and 2.96 percent in capital goods.

Compared to annual D-PPI, 10 sub-sectors showed lower and 19 sub-sectors showed higher changes

The only sub-sector with an annual decrease was electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning with 17.08 percent. On the other hand, basic pharmaceutical products and preparations increased by 96.61 percent, other mining and quarrying products by 93.27 percent, tobacco products by 81.06 percent.

Compared to monthly D-PPI, 13 sub-sectors showed lower change and 16 sub-sectors showed higher change

The highest monthly decreases were realized in printing and recording services with 0.21 percent and basic metals with 0.10 percent. On the other hand, tobacco products by 42.46 percent, water and water treatment and distribution by 13.72 percent, crude oil and natural gas by 8.95 percent were the sub-sectors where indices increased the most.
