India tries to facilitate EU steel quotas and tariffs

Both sides hope to complete their negotiations by the end of 2023.

Government officials said they will try to facilitate EU steel import quotas and tariffs due to the difficulties India faces in exporting alloys. The two sides had previously started negotiations in 2007, but the lack of progress led to a deadlock in 2013.

Last year on December 13, the EU decided to establish the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which would impose a tax on heavily polluting commodities. India may be concerned about this in the negotiation.
