India launches AD investigation into electrical steel imports from China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has officially initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Electrical Steel (CRGO) and Amorphous Metal (AM) originating from China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia, following a petition filed by JSW JFE Electrical Steel.

India launches AD investigation into electrical steel imports from China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia

CRGO and AM, which are the subject of the investigation, are used as magnetic materials in the cores of power and distribution transformers and are considered technically interchangeable products.

The authority stated that NLMK India, another domestic producer named in the application, was not recognized as an independent domestic industry under anti-dumping regulations due to identified corporate links with exporters in Russia and an importing company in India. Therefore, the company was not accepted as a complainant in the case.

The investigating authority designated the Period of Investigation (POI), during which the unfair trade practice allegations will be examined, as the 12 month period between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

The products concerned are classified under tariff codes 7225 1100, 7226 1100, and 7226 300 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.
