Huta Częstochowa maintains 2026 target following production restart

Huta Częstochowa, located in the Polish city of Częstochowa, resumed operations following the production stoppage at the end of 2023 and aims to produce approximately 500,000 tonnes of heavy plate in 2026. Having produced approximately 240,000 tonnes in the first four months of the year, the plant maintains its annual target despite breakdowns at the rolling mill.

Huta Częstochowa maintains 2026 target following production restart

Production resumed in 2025

Huta Częstochowa's return to production came after a lengthy period that began when its previous owner, Liberty Częstochowa, halted production and subsequently entered insolvency proceedings. Production stopped at the end of 2023, while Węglokoks began the process of restarting operations after leasing the plant's assets in November 2024.

Cold commissioning work was carried out at the steelworks and rolling mill in December 2024. The first trial heats were conducted on 10 January 2025, and the full production cycle was restarted on 20 January. As a result, the plant, which had remained out of production for an extended period, returned to the Polish steel market.

In its first year of operations, 2025, the plant produced approximately 260,000 tonnes of steel and delivered more than 239,000 tonnes of plate to its customers. Orders for 2026 also began to be received during this period.

Production accelerated in 2026

Huta Częstochowa reached approximately 240,000 tonnes of heavy plate production in the first four months of 2026. Production during the first part of the year thus approached the level achieved by the plant throughout the whole of 2025.

The company has a target of producing approximately 500,000 tonnes of heavy plate in 2026. However, breakdowns and maintenance work in the rolling section during the year caused disruptions to the production schedule. Nevertheless, management did not revise its annual target, considering that the lost production could be recovered during the remainder of the year.

Production has returned, while the profitability challenge continues

In 2025, the company's revenue amounted to approximately PLN 883 million, while its net loss stood at PLN 232.6 million.

Financing and modernisation continue

Financing and investment activities also continued as part of Huta Częstochowa's return to production. In May, the Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu (ARP) provided the plant with PLN 100 million in working capital financing. The funds were planned to be used for the purchase of raw materials and supplies, as well as the development of steel production.

Modernisation and maintenance work on the plant's equipment continued in July and August. Huta collected bids for the modernisation of the No. 4 pusher furnace until 31 July and launched another tender process for maintenance work at the end of August. These activities indicate that efforts to strengthen the plant's technical infrastructure have continued following the restart of production.
